The Gift Of Time
Have you ever really wanted something that didn’t happen right away? Or not at all? A new house, a new car, a new baby might all be something we have wished for at different times. In our “instant” world, we have become accustomed to immediate response, whether it is a phone call, text, changing the channel or microwaving popcorn. Our patience can be pretty limited, because, “we know what we want, and we want it NOW!”
A lesson that our family has learned, on more than one occasion, is that when a project is road blocked, it is frequently for the better. For example, we planned to renovate and add an addition to our then-home 5 years ago. We had a designer create plans and sent them out to local contractors, seeking a quote. The response was NIL! Not one contractor was available to even quote our project, never mind complete the work! We learned that most contractors would rather build a new home than renovate an existing building. We had the vision in mind and were excited to have more space for our family and a garage to store our vehicles. But, we had to wait.
It was during the year long wait for an available and able contractor that we made some key changes to the plan. The most significant one, suggested by a family member, was an adjustment that created an additional 200 square feet of usable space! If we had pushed the project through too early, we would have missed the opportunity that changed the renovation from good to fantastic.
Having such an experience is a great life lesson – one that we are working to apply as we develop Prairie View Properties. We have decided that we would rather create this neighbourhood properly, with thoughtful planning and vision, rather than make it happen too quickly. It is a luxury that not all people have. Sometimes you have to push forward as fast as possible to get needed results. We are determined to meet our mission: To offer families spacious, fully serviced acreage lots in a community designed for a relaxed lifestyle, surrounded by nature.
So, as you dream about your new home, new car or new addition to the family, realize that what appears to be a roadblock might be a short detour with results worth waiting for.
